The Seed Savers Exchange - Father Athanase of the Trappist Monastery at Oka, Montréal Quebec bred this melon variety in 1912. It is a cross between the Banana melon ad the green-fleshed Montreal Market melon. The melon was rediscovered on Ile-Blizard, an island in the St. Lawrence River, and is now available to gardeners once again. Melons were developed and domesticated in Africa and Asia. Europeans settling in the Americas are recorded growing honeydew and casaba melons in the 17th century.
