'American Dawn' Dahlia (Decorative or Semi-Dinnerplate) from $10.00
'American Dawn' Dahlias are quite the cheerful flower. Their bright hues combined with their strong stems are wonderful in the garden. We will be taking rooted cutting orders that should be ready in mid April. We only ship rooted cuttings and not regular cuttings. No tubers will be offered in 2026 but we hope our cutting program goes well and we are offering some limited numbers. We are doing this to grow our own stock out more quickly. American Dawn is requested in high numbers.  Dahlias - We love dahlias for the endless blooms they produce though the season never feels ling enough. Great for butterflies and other pollinators Ships starting by early April Key Planting Tips We plant dahlia tubers 4-6" deep. We add a few alfafla pellets in the hole and backfill with topsoil amended with compost. We space this variety 18" apart.  We recommend to simply pinch back the shoots after about 3-4 weeks to encourage branching.  You can amend soil with 10-10-10 or something similar. Just make sure the first number (nitrogen) is 5 or 10. You can fertilize every 4 weeks to help achieve larger blossoms. For 90% of us, don’t water until your Dahlia sprouts. If your soil is very dry, water the soil first and then let it stand for 30 minutes before planting. Mulch around your plant leaving bare dirt directly above the tuber. Painted Lady Improved Runner Bean, 1827 Heirloom $3.75 $3.95
The Seed Savers Exchange - also knowns as Bicolor Runner, Painted Runner. Friar Antonio de Arrabida described this species in Flora of Rio de Janeiro in 1827. Incredibly beautiful bi-colored blossoms are very attractive to hummingbird moths. This strain is less affected by warmer temperatures than other runner beans and is a prolific bloomer. Esteemed as both an ornamental and edible climber. Red Milkweed, Rose Milkweed, Swamp Milkweed - Native from $3.25 $3.95
Red Milkweed or Ascelpsis incarta is a jewel in the gardens. It prefers moist soils or rich garden soils.  It is reliably easy and will naturalize in areas that are often hard for such wodnerful flowers to thrive. As with all milkweed in North America, it is an essential host plant for Monarchs.  We often find 1 cat per plant of red milkweed in our native start areas.  We are quick to rescue them on young plants and move them to more established settings where they can have hundrends of milkweeds to choose from.  Red Milkweed has many names, Rose Milkweed or Swamp Milkweed but I assure you there is nothing swampy about this flower. Ranunculus Orange (Ranunculus Aviv) from $5.99 $7.99
Ranunculus are a favorite bride's flowers and yet gardeners shy away from these very easy flowers.  You simply treat them as begonia but for full sun conditions. They are exceptional in garden beds and stunning in containers. The blooms are full and the foliage is lush. Southern Exposure Seed Exchange - Brought to the Americas from Africa during the slave trade. Grown by Jefferson at Monticello. Once the standard for southern peas, this variety is drought-tolerant and will grow in almost all soils. 5 ft. vines produce extended harvests of 7-9 in. green pods. Small seeds are light brown with dark speckles, good eaten green or dried.
