Blue Vervain is a wonderful native that thrives in moist settings, woodland edges, prairies with rich and moist loam or in most gardens. It is often used in rain gardens, retention areas, waterland restorations, banks of streams, creeks or ponds. Blue Vervain is a bienniel that easily reseeds every year.  It is a medicinial sought after by herbalists. Wildlife such as birds, butterflies and bees are attracted to it while deer do not bother it much. Southern Exposure Seed Exchange - Revived by North Carolina seed saver Rob Danford. One of the few peppers that reliably produces well in the short Smoky Mountain growing season (150 days or less). An incredibly sweet, bright red, thick-fleshed pimento pepper, 4 x 1½ in. Great raw, as well as for cooking, roasting, and canning. Small (24-30 in.) plants may be closely spaced (18 in. apart). These peppers are from Ashe County, town of West Jefferson in the Smoky Mountains. We love dahlias for the endless blooms they produce though the season never feels ling enough. We have around 200 varieties we have been growing out on our farm.  Decorative Dahlias are wonderful plants that provide structure and color to any garden with minimal effort. They do rather well in the middle to back of your beds or even in stand-alone rows. We add a few alfafla pellets in the hole and backfill with topsoil amended with compost. We space this variety 18" apart.  We recommend to simply pinch back the shoots after about 3-4 weeks to encourage branching.  You can amend soil with 10-10-10 or something similar. Just make sure the first number (nitrogen) is 5 or 10. You can fertilize every 4 weeks to help achieve larger blossoms. For 90% of us, don’t water until your Dahlia sprouts. If your soil is very dry, water the soil first and then let it stand for 30 minutes before planting. Mulch around your plant leaving bare dirt directly above the tuber.
