Black Hollyhock Flower, Heirloom pre-1629

Black Hollyhock -  A longtime favorite in gardens.  These are single flower hollyhocks and have an appearance of dark black when cloudy and a hint for red when sunny. They are sure to be belvoed specimens in your gardens. Botanical Name: Alcea rosea

This single hollyhock was described in 1629 by English botanist John Parkinson as being “of a darke red like blackblood.”  Self-seeding biennial, 5-6' tall.

Instructions - Instructions - Sow seeds outdoors one week before last frost. Give space to allow airflow, and grow in rich moist soil. Stake tall plants. Or start inside 6-8 weeks before the last frost.
