Blue Pearl Crocus is one of the best performing crocuses as they are a Tommasinianus crocus or Tommies. It is not only lovely but fragrant as well. It is the winner of the Award of Garden Merit 1993 and will be a lovely addition to your garden for years to come. Crocuses signal spring’s return. The blooms pop up even through snow and after months of winter, they may cause you to leap for joy. Plant them by your walkways or where ever you can see out a window. Diane recounts its origin in her memoir, Gathering: “A few years earlier, a gentleman had sent me a three-pound Folgers coffee can full of seed. He said the plants were always grown from seed and rivaled any commercial variety, but they came to me with no name. His claim was true. These plants were eventually transplanted to a patch in front of the barn at Heritage Farm and 20 years later have developed into a magnificent bed. Our 2025 harvest is so far exceeding our expectations. The tubers have done very well with thick necks. All dahlias are grown in Cashton, WI in our zone 4 farm. Stop and visit during the summer. It is a sight to see thousands of blooms! The Break Out Dahlia's height is around 40" - Dinnerplate Dahlias are awesome additions to any garden. They provide structure and color to any garden with minimal effort. They do rather well in the back of your beds because of their size or even in stand-alone rows. They reward gardeners with an abundance of blooms starting in m late summer through frost. Discover the vibrant tale behind this fiery heirloom flower—perfect for Firefly Farm & Mercantile's flower seed selections! This treasure is from our friends at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange 🌺🔥 A Chance Discovery in the Oklahoma Heartland In the summer of 1963, Mona Hardin, a passionate home gardener from Lawton, Oklahoma, USA, spotted something extraordinary blooming amid the dusty prairie weeds near her rural homestead. Among the usual wildflowers stood a striking plant with vivid tangerine-orange daisy-like blooms (2-3" wide) on slender 3-4 ft stems—a rogue volunteer that didn't match any catalog variety. Mona, undeterred by its mystery origins (likely a natural mutation or escaped heirloom of Cosmos sulphureus, blending Mexican wild cosmos genes with American soil), harvested the seeds and sowed them in her garden the next year. The plants thrived in Oklahoma's hot, dry summers, self-seeding reliably and attracting butterflies and hummingbirds like magnets. Word spread through local garden clubs, and by the late 1970s, Mona's "orange cosmo" seeds were traded at seed swaps across the Southwest. Renee's Garden - These lovely climbing nasturtiums have charming soft primrose yellow flowers and bright green foliage, much different from the usual bold and brassy color mix. They grow easily in any well-drained soil and will gracefully disguise neglected areas or twine along a fence, trellis, or wall, providing a summer arbor of pretty lily-pad-shaped leaves and long-spurred flowers. As a wonderful bonus, both the bright flowers and leaves are deliciously edible with a spicy watercress flavor. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin 10 inches apart so plants will have ample room to grow.
