Quick Stock Growing Facts:
- Planting Window: Stock loves the cool weather! Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. They can be transplanted out while the weather is still brisk, as they thrive in temperatures between 50°F and 65°F.
- Light Requirements: Requires full sun (6–8+ hours) to ensure the strongest, straightest stems and maximum fragrance production.
- Hardiness: Half-hardy annual; can withstand light frosts. In the Driftless Region, it is an excellent "shoulder season" crop for spring and late fall.
- Soil Preference: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. They do not like "wet feet."
- Expert Tip (The Cool Trigger): To get the most flowers, your stock needs a "chill." The plants require a period of nighttime temperatures below 60°F to trigger bud formation. This is why they are so successful in a Wisconsin spring but may stop blooming during the peak heat of July!
