The Seed Savers Exchange - Yes, this purple-stemmed Siberian kale is nutritious and delicious, producing crunchy, crisp leaves with a sweet flavor (made sweeter with frost!) and only a hint of bitterness. Green, slightly blistered leaves have lobed margins and purple petioles and measure 15.5-18.5" long and 5.5-8.5" wide. Southern Exposure Southern Seed - Lacinato Rainbow Mix is a cross of Lacinato and Red Bor hybrid. It looks more like Red Russian but with the Lacinato texture. You get wonderful green leaves with bright red stems. These seeds were from kale plants that survived a cold freeze at -6 degrees Fahrenheit so the genetics have passed on making this a really hardy kale. Smooth green leaves grow to 3-4' wide. Raw leaves are slightly bitter with a tangy mustard flavor. Cooked leaves are sweet, juicy, and tender. Early to bolt. The annual life cycle is very unusual for kale, but advantageous for home-seed saving. Renee's Garden - Imported from Italy, our Tuscan kale strain is the fastest growing and best tasting for baby leaf salads. Easily grown by the “cut and come again” method, seeds are sown thickly, then cut as needed when just 4 to 5 inches tall, leaving the crowns to regrow for multiple additional harvests. Baby leaf kale has a much more tender texture and milder sweet flavor than mature kale and makes a wonderful fresh salad.
