Grandiflora Mix Sweet Pea, Pre-1907 Heirloom

The Seed Savers Exchange - A classic Genovese-type basil, with dense foliage, this herb has a slightly milder anise profile. It comes from the family of Steve Foisie and is named for his grandfather, Agostino Reghitto. Agostino emigrated from Italy to Washington State in 1902 and founded Colonial Gardens Company, which raised vegetables for the Tacoma and Olympia markets. It’s unknown if the basil came from Italy, but Steve and his sister Sue recall that their mother, Della (Agostino's daughter), grew it each year. The upright plants measure approximately 1' tall, and the leaves measure about 3-4½" long and about 1-2" wide. Characteristics: Organic Reintroduced for 2022 A more mild basil Dense foliage 250 Seeds Instructions - Sow seeds outdoors when soil is warm and temperature does not drop below 65°F. The Living Seed Company - A favorite of our friends at Occidental Arts and Ecology Center and a favorite of ours. Seed originally given to Doug Gosling, this tomato was brought from Poland in 1922 from a friend's father named Andy. Did great in our cool Point Reyes summer as well in the heat of our farm in North Carolina. Amazingly delicious, meaty and juicy. Attractive pointed pink tomatoes with very few seeds. The Living Seed Company - Originated from an elderly woman from Sebastopol, CA, who grew these for 70 years. Big indeterminate, regular leaf, vigorous tomato plants that produce large 3/4" red cherry tomatoes. They are sweet tasting, with a spark of tart flavors. Delicious! The Sebastopol is suited for cooler coastal regions, short season gardens and areas with foggy summer climates. A wonderful salad tomato. The Living Seed Company -A dwarf variety of garden pea that needs no staking, is named after the late 19th century plant breeder Thomas Laxton. Developed to be wilt resistant and sweeter than other peas available at the time. This old time stand by is still impressing us with its large sweet shelling peas (up to 9 in pod!). We love eating them straight off the vine in the morning for breakfast, just like I did growing up in my grandparent's garden! The dark high quality peas are a delight fresh tossed into salads, lightly steamed as a side, or tossed in at the end of fried rice or a stir fry. Blanch and freeze to keep a bit of early summer in you ice box! The skins contain less tanins thus removing much of the bitter flavor, favas can be known for. They are a more modern open-pollinted variety from the 1980's, As with all favas they do not care for the heat and can tolerate cold temperatures down to zero degrees hence why it is important to sow in early spring when peas, lettuces, kales can be sown. Favas feed the soil and are often used as a cover crop as well. They grow easily in any well-drained soil and will gracefully disguise neglected areas or twine along a fence, trellis, or wall, providing a summer arbor of pretty lily-pad-shaped leaves and long-spurred flowers. As a wonderful bonus, both the bright flowers and leaves are deliciously edible with a spicy watercress flavor.
