🍁 Overview
The North Georgia Candy Roaster (Cucurbita maxima) is a true Appalachian treasure: a massive, elongated winter squash that can tip the scales at 10-50 pounds (or more for prize specimens!). Its rind matures to a stunning deep orange, enclosing vibrant, thick orange flesh that's exceptionally sweet – earning its name from its candy-like flavor when roasted. It's perfectly ok to harvest when the end is still slightly green like the picture shows. We grow this in our Zone 4 garden each year with great success
Perfect for pies, soups, baking, and purees, it has a smooth, nutty taste with low moisture content, making it ideal for long-term storage. Harvest in 100 days, and enjoy fresh eating or winter preservation. Vigorous vines spread 10-20 feet, yielding 2-4 fruits per plant.
This heirloom isn't just food – it's a slice of Southern mountain heritage that'll make your garden the envy of the neighborhood!
