Amish Cockscomb, Celosia, 1570's Heirloom

While the Celosia genus has been documented in European botanical texts and herbals since the mid-16th century—noted for its exotic, "rooster-comb" appearance—this specific "Amish" strain represents a living tradition of stewardship. By selecting seeds for vigor and color over centuries, generations of Amish gardeners have ensured that this historic floral form remains a vibrant, healthy, and consistent performer for modern growers.

• Distinctive Form: The flower heads develop into tight, ruffled, fan-like crests, providing vertical interest that contrasts beautifully with spiky flowers like snapdragons or zinnias.
• Durable Blooms: These flowers are incredibly long-lasting in the garden and hold their shape and color exceptionally well even after being cut, making them a premier choice for dried flower arrangements.

The plant grows in a compact, bushy habit, making it an excellent candidate for both container gardening and traditional flower beds.

• The Bloom: Rich, saturated shades—often deep crimson or velvet red—forming large, intricate crests.
• Floral Uses: Exceptional as a fresh-cut flower or dried. When dried, they retain their velvety texture and bold color indefinitely, perfect for autumn decor and winter wreaths.
