The "Royal" strain represents a 20th-century peak in Sweet Pea breeding. It was developed to improve upon the famous "Spencer" ruffled types of the early 1900s. Breeders specifically selected the Royal lineage for florist-quality traits: sturdier stems, larger "multi-bloom" flower heads (often 4–5 blossoms per stem), and a vigorous growth habit that could withstand the transition from spring to summer heat better than its ancestors. Today, it remains one of the most popular mixes for those who demand the perfect balance of visual drama and classic scent.

1. Seed Preparation (The Secret to Success):
Sweet Pea seeds have a very tough outer coat. To speed up germination:

• Soaking: Alternatively, soak seeds in room-temperature water for 12–24 hours before planting until they swell.

2. When to Plant:
