At one point in history, Tennis Ball Lettuce, dominated the market. It grew even in the darkest of days very well and had a tolerance for the cold. America can thank Bethiah Oliver, Massachusetts seedswoman who imported it to America from the United Kingdom in 1769 There were two strains, white-seeded and black-seeded. The white-seeded strain, popular in the North, matures two weeks earlier and is slightly more bitter than the black-seeded. The southern United States, favored the black-seeded strain. Is it possible they favored it because of its sweetness or their contempt for the northern states? Additionally at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson grew 15 varieties of lettuce and favored the Tennis Ball for its low maintenance compared to other lettuces. We are currently stocking Southern Exposure while we wait for the 2026 seeds from Seedsavers. Both are the black seeded variety. Three Heart Lettuce, 1880s Heirloom, Organic

Our supply is almost done for 2026, hurry nowto secure your seeds. Firefly Farm & Mercantile - Sieva Lima, aka Carolina Lima or Small White Lima. This lima is our most popular lima we offer. Folks love the rich butter bean flavor. The vines will reach 10' and on our 6' fence we tend to trim them to 7' so it spurs them into bean production a little quicker since our farm is in a valley. Our stock will be limited in 2026 as we partner with small farms to grow the stock we need to meet our gardeners' needs. The cool nights help to ripen the seed so it is happy up north but must be started right away once it is warm enough. Sieva is very productive and those in zones 6-10 will enjoy long harvests while those in zones 5 and cooler weather will need to maximize their harvest by ensuring proper watering and excellent soil for them to grow in.  Firefly Farm &amp; Mercantile -  Sieva Lima, aka Carolina Lima or Small White Lima. This lima is our most popular lima we offer. Folks love the rich butter bean flavor. The vines will reach 10' and on our 6' fence we tend to trim them to 7' so it spurs them into bean production a little quicker since our farm is in a valley. 
Our stock will be limited in 2026 as we partner with small farms to grow the stock we need to meet our gardeners' needs. The cool nights help to ripen the seed so it is happy up north but must be started right away once it is warm enough. Sieva is very productive and those in zones 6-10 will enjoy long harvests while those in zones 5 and cooler  weather will need to maximize their harvest by ensuring proper watering and excellent soil for them to grow in.

Erlene said that she has been spinning green cotton for years and that her grandmother loved using colored cotton in her quilts.] The fibers are light olive green and can be spun off the seed. Harvest the bolls shortly after they open so that the fiber does not fade in the sunlight. Once it is spun and washed it turns yellowish-green. 5 ft. tall plants.
