'Bodacious' dahlias bright red and yellow blossoms are stunning when paired with other hot colors, white or blue hues. Their strong stems make it easy to use them for arrangements.  We love dahlias for the endless blooms they produce though the season never feels ling enough. We have around 200 varieties we grow on our farm. All dahlias offered are grown right here.  Dinnerplate Dahlias are awesome additions to any garden. They provide structure and color to any garden with minimal effort. They do rather well in the back of your beds because of their size or even in stand-alone rows. They reward gardeners with an abundance of blooms starting in mid to late summer through frost.  Typically they are not bothered by diseases and have attractive foliage until frost.  Characteristics 30”-50” in height Blooms are 6-10” wide USDA Zones 8-10 (Hardy in these zones, lift and store in winter in other zones) Summer to Fall Bloom Duration: Continuous Blooms through frost starting in mid to late summer Full Sun to Partial Shade Additional Information Great for Mass Plantings, Borders, and Cutting Gardens. Great for butterflies and other pollinators Ships starting by early April Key Planting Tips We plant dahlia tubers 4-6" deep. We add a few alfafla pellets in the hole and backfill with topsoil amended with compost. We space this variety 18" apart.  We recommend to simply pinch back the shoots after about 3-4 weeks to encourage branching.  You can amend soil with 10-10-10 or something similar. Just make sure the first number (nitrogen) is 5 or 10. You can fertilize every 4 weeks to help achieve larger blossoms. For 90% of us, don’t water until your Dahlia sprouts. If your soil is very dry, water the soil first and then let it stand for 30 minutes before planting. Mulch around your plant leaving bare dirt directly above the tuber. Renee's Garden - We’ve specially imported this traditional Italian favorite with plump, delicious fruits that have pretty pleated shoulders, beautiful color & absolutely scrumptious flavor. Costoluto's strong indeterminate vines grow tall and heavy with big crops of tender, juicy, rich red tomatoes.  Characteristics:  Organic Classic Italian heirloom  Pleated shoulders and beautiful color  Delicious flavor    Instructions - In early spring, start indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before outdoor night temperatures are reliably in the 50-55°F.  Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart in a container of seed starting mix. Keep moist but not soggy, and very warm, 80°F. Provide a strong light source until seedlings are ready to plant outside. When 2 inches tall, transplant into individual 4-inch pots, burying stems up to the base of leaves. Maintain at 70-75°F.  Feed with half-strength fertilizer every 2 weeks until ready to plant, then gradually acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions. When nights reach 55°F,  transplant 3 feet apart into rich soil in full sun. Prepare the soil well with aged manure or compost. Plant several inches deeper than seedlings were growing in containers. Provide strong stakes or tall wire cages at planting time. New Addition for Firefly!  'Easter Candy' is a beautiful and prolific bloomer.  It gives many stems once establised and its unblemished blooms are wonderful, especially on sunny days. It was bred by Keith Keppel and released in 2011.  Bearded Irises are wonderful. They are easy to grow and give you wonderful results.  Bearded Irises are hardy from Zone 3 all the way to Zone 10.  They do not need a chilling period so they can grow almost anywhere in the United States.  It’s not uncommon to hear stories how immigrants would bring these flower with them from their home countries throughout Europe.  If you walk through suburbs and cities, you will start to be able to see the diversity of these species.
