Quick Sweet Pepper Growing Facts:
- Planting Window: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant out only when soil is consistently 65°F or warmer (typically late May or early June).
- The Ripening Process: All sweet peppers start green! While they are edible at the green stage, they only reach their full sugar content and nutritional peak once they turn their final color (red, yellow, orange, or purple).
- Sunlight: Requires full sun (8+ hours). The more sun they get, the thicker the walls and the sweeter the flavor will be.
- Soil Preference: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil rich in calcium and magnesium to prevent "blossom end rot."
- Expert Tip (The First Bloom): For a more productive plant, pinch off the very first flower that appears on your pepper transplant. This signals the plant to put more energy into growing a sturdy framework of branches, which will later support a much heavier harvest of fruit!
