Ranunculus
Ranunculus are long time favorites for florist and flower enthusiasts alike. Brides cannot get enough of them and gardeners love their 6 weeks of blooming displays. We ship from September to about March unless you are in a growing zone that doesn’t get above 70 degrees in the summer.
Ranunculus require some planning and it takes some flexibility to be successful. Here are some general guidelines.
- Ranunculus bloom about 90 days after planting in ideal conditions. You can time them and start to root them before you’d like blooms or you can root them in the fall if you live in zones 7-10. In zones 7 you may need to protect the ground and keep it from freezing solid. Fall rooted Ranunculus do have bigger blooms.
- When it starts to get warm into the 70’s, Ranunculus tend to start wrap up their growing season and start to go dormant.
- For those not in zones 7-10, you’ll need to lift your corms and save them for the following planting season.
- We soak our corms for 1 hour for Aviv and 2-3 hours for our Jumbo corms, we dry and then place in a light potting soil mix to pre-sprout them in growing trays. We place them in areas of the garden shop or farm that will stay around 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit as this is their ideal sprouting temperatures.
